1. PZU Gdansk Marathon – relation

The first PZU Gdansk Marathon was a great success. Near Amber Expo there were 1857 runners from 10 countries. The route passed through the old town, European Solidarity Center, Ergo Arena and PGE Arena. The inhabitants of Tricity spontaneously supported and cheered on the runners. Everybody supported how they could. Gdansk organisational debut was a great logistic challenge hundrets of volunteers and special services. It must be admitted that all classes of the society set off. Politicians, buissnessmen, students and pensioners took part. There were also positively zappy people.

When looking at the marathoner's T-shirts, it could be noticed that everyone was running for someone e.g. For a foundation, for Maria and Kuba. Leszek Stachowiak, Przemysław Torłop and Grzegorz Niwiński ran for Barbra Szlachetka.  By sheer coincidence on 17 May she celebreted her birthday. She was a true Polish Forrest Gump. She ran 52 marathons in a year and 100 marathons in 2 years. She was famous for her participation in Spartathlon, a 100km run among pyramids and runs in sat mines. Currently a documentary about the most famous Polish runner is being made.
